AI crypto trading bots in 2026: five questions to ask before you pay for one
Prices and features checked on each product's own page on 3 November 2026. I build one of these, so read this with that in mind.
Every bot platform now says "AI" somewhere on the page. The word covers everything from a chat box beside a grid bot to a system that writes and runs your whole strategy. These are the questions I would ask, followed by how four products answer them.
1. Does it trade the market you trade?
A lot of bots began as spot grid and DCA tools. If you trade perpetuals, check that futures bots exist and which plan includes them. On some products they sit behind a higher tier.
Also check whether the bot connects to your existing exchange, or whether you have to move your money to theirs.
2. What does "AI" actually do here?
Ask what you would be able to do without it. There are roughly three levels:
- A chat assistant that answers questions next to ordinary bots.
- AI-suggested settings or strategies that you pick from.
- Your own idea turned into running rules, where you describe a strategy and that description is what trades.
None of these is automatically better. Just make sure you are paying for the one you want.
3. Can you test it properly first?
A backtest should include fees and funding, and should show you how the strategy did on a stretch of data it wasn't tuned on. Check how far back a plan lets you test. Paper trading on live prices is the next step, and it should be cheap or free to try.
4. Can you see why it did what it did?
When a bot loses money you need to know whether it followed your rules or misread them. Look for a log of each decision. A list of filled orders doesn't tell you that.
5. What does it really cost?
Add the subscription to whatever the platform takes per trade, and to the exchange fees you pay anyway. A bot that trades often can pay away a good strategy's profit in fees, so test with costs included.
How four products answer
Cryptohopper
- Price: Explorer $29, Adventurer $69, Hero $129 a month, less on annual billing. A 3-day free trial, and no free plan listed.
- Connects to: "10 exchanges", by its own count.
- AI: "A.I. strategies and A.I designer" on the top plan.
- Testing: backtesting and paper trading from the first plan.
Bitsgap
- Price: a free plan, then Basic $29, Advanced $69, Pro $149 a month, or $23, $55 and $119 on the annual option.
- Connects to: Binance, OKX, Bitget, Kraken, Hyperliquid and others, 17 in its own count.
- Futures: futures bots on Advanced and Pro.
- AI: an AI Assistant on paid plans and AI Chat on all of them.
- Testing: backtests of 30, 180 or 365 days depending on plan, plus a demo mode.
Pionex
- Model: the bots run on Pionex itself, so you trade on its exchange. Its site promotes futures grid bots starting from 10 USDT and calls its bots free. Reviews cite a 0.05% trading fee. I could not confirm that on its fee page, so check it yourself.
Central Command (mine)
- Price: free with a BloFin account, or a 10-day free trial with no card.
- Connects to: BloFin only. If you don't want to trade there, this isn't for you.
- Futures: perpetuals only.
- AI: you write rules in plain English and those rules are what the agent reads. You can also follow your own TradingView signals, or connect your own AI, such as Claude, over MCP.
- Testing: backtests on closed candles with fees and funding, showing the first 70% of the period against the last 30%. Paper on live prices.
- Audit: every check goes into a Thinking feed you can read line by line.
- Limits: up to 3 coins per agent. We earn a commission from BloFin on trades, and that is how it stays free.
I left out 3Commas, one of the best-known names here, because its pricing page refused to load for me and I didn't want to quote second-hand prices. The same five questions apply.
How I would choose
- You want a simple grid running with little setup: Pionex or a Bitsgap plan.
- You want one tool across many exchanges: Bitsgap or Cryptohopper.
- You have your own rules and trade perps, and BloFin works for you: try Central Command.
No platform can make a losing strategy profitable, ours included. A bot follows your plan faster and with less emotion, and that only helps if the plan is good.
Disclosure: I build Central Command, which earns a commission from BloFin on members' trading. This article was drafted with AI assistance. It is not financial advice. Past results do not guarantee future returns, and leveraged trading can lose all of your money.
