How to read the table
Funding is a payment between the longs and the shorts of a perpetual, made at each settlement. It keeps the perpetual's price near the spot price.
- A positive rate means longs pay shorts. A negative rate means shorts pay longs.
- The rate is per settlement. BloFin shows it as a fraction, 0.0001, and the table shows it as a percent, 0.01%.
- The interval differs by market. Some settle every 8 hours and some every 4, so the same rate costs twice as much on a 4-hour market. Comparing the rates alone is misleading, so the table also shows the cost per day and a year at the current rate.
The sums
payment = position value x rate
cost per day % = rate % x 24 / interval in hours
a year at this rate % = cost per day % x 365
A $10,000 long with a rate of 0.01% every 8 hours pays $1 at each settlement, which is $3 a day. A year at that rate is 10.95%, but rates change at every settlement and rarely hold for long, so read it as a way to compare markets. It isn't a forecast. You only pay or receive funding if you hold a position at the settlement time.
The source line above the table names the exchange that answered. If BloFin's feed is unavailable, the table shows another exchange's rates with their name beside them, and leaves out the columns that need BloFin's own intervals.
